Joy Harjo presents: "Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light"

The Tulsa Library Trust, the American Indian Resource Center, and the Reader's Library are excited to partner with The Oklahoma Center for Poets and Writers to kick off the Celebration of Books with a special performance called "Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light" by musician, poet, and playwright, Joy Harjo (Mvskoke) on Thurs., Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Central Library.

Book signing immediately after the program. Harjo, accompanied by Grammy Award winning producer, engineer and guitarist, Larry Mitchell, will present this deeply compelling work of struggle, displacement, self-discovery, and healing. Invoking spoken word, storytelling and son, Harjo combines character-driven narratives with tales inspired by the traditions of her people-and takes a few turns blowing a mean jazz saxophone. An allergorical work of tremendous power, "Wings" demonstrates how theater and art can bring life full circle.

The Celebration of Books is held every other year in Tulsa and is one of the finest book conferences in the region. This year it features three Pulitzer Prize winners; Rita Dove, Michael Cunningham, and Beth Henley. Check the website for a full listing of authors and for registration information.
