The Osage Casino is spreading holiday cheer to those in need.
Casino employees sponsored 75 children in need as part of the “Adopt-a-Star” 2011 campaign this holiday season.
“This campaign is a great way to give back to needy families with the support of casino co-workers to team-up, adopt a child and shop for that kid’s wish list,” said Becky Johnson, Osage Casino human resources director.
According to a prepared release, employees selected a child’s name from star ornaments hanging from a holiday tree at the central offices in Tulsa. A few weeks later, Osage Casino central employees loaded many bags, including seven bicycles, into vehicles for Osage Nation employees to deliver. The recipients are families in the Osage Nation Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.
“It was overwhelming to see what the Osage Casino employees provided for our families both this year and last,” said Angela Pratt, director of the ON TANF program. “In both campaigns, we contacted each family to ask about the children’s wish lists and provided that information on each Star. It was heartwarming to see some of the children get everything on their list. It is hard to express how much we appreciate the generosity of the Osage Casino employees. On behalf of the TANF office and our clients, we would like to say Thank you to the Osage Casino employees who participated in the program.”
Osage Nation was the first Tribe in Oklahoma to administer a Tribal TANF Program, according to a prepared release. The Osage TANF program mission is to provide welfare related services to Native American families in need who reside within the Osage Tribal service area.
