My name is Rose Mary Shaw and I am a candidate for Osage Nation Congress.  My intent is to have a positive campaign.  I look toward the future and not on the past.  We are a progressive people and have always adapted successfully to our environment as needed through the centuries.

My Osage Name is Hum-pe-a-kah.  It was given to me by my Aunt Mary Lookout Standingbear through her nephew Morris Lookout.  My family comes from the Pryors, RedEagles, Logans, Maker, Claremores and Mongrains, through my mother, Marjorie Mae Maker.  My father, John Shaw comes from the Shaws, Canvilles, Tayriens, Denoyas,  Plomondons, Revards,  Lesserts and Musgroves.   I have songs in all three districts.  I have been a Shareholder since 1965.

I have recently moved back to Pawhuska and stand amazed at the level of progress by the tribe.  Some say change is risky, but I believe it is better than standing still. We have seen a history of standing still while other tribes have attained progress.

I believe our Congress should actively communicate with its constituents.  Communication to the people one serves would nullify a lot of rumors which persist.  Accountability and Transparency in the finances, pending bills and resolutions, would assist the Osage people in understanding the actions of Congress.   A showing of INTEGRITY by our Representatives would influence the relationship between the constituency and Congress.  Integrity is not hard to attain.  It is part of a person’s character which denotes honesty to oneself.

My experience has been in administration, program development, budgeting, financial reports, grant writing, oil exploration and development and Health Administration.  Being on the state finance committee for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, our committee was responsible for millions of dollars.  I have also worked for Texaco Oil Company and AT&T where I was responsible for the NORAD account.

I have served on national, state, and university boards,   The boards were responsible for administration of monies provided by state and national agencies.  This experience has given me the background on how to conduct business and also how to reach consensus on issues.

My education consists of a Bachelors Degree from Northeastern State and a Masters Degree in Social Work and Administration from Washington University at St. Louis.  I have completed courses toward my Masters in Health Administration which included statistics, organizational change, accounting, budgeting, organizational change, as well as board training.

The emphasis for my campaign is

·      Improving the Health Care Delivery for our people, especially the Elders.

·      Providing secondary education for our youths and incentives to return to work for the tribe.

·      Establish a strategy plan for congress with priorities and time frames.

·      Improve communication and accessibility of elected representatives.

·      Transparency of financial information shared with the people.

·      Improve method of investments made by tribe.
