Words for the soul
I would like to share a poem with you instead of a traditional blog this month. In fact, I wish more Osage writers would share their artistic works. We have so many talented writers among our people; calling all Osage writers, this is a perfect forum for you!
Tha^.tse Xo - Broken Heart
Back and forth between the rivers we danced
Compelled ourselves to the rhythm and run…of this land
Truly magnificent, we were at one time
Heart’s bound tightly, we transcended time
Oh how their interjections were soon too often
And how quickly accommodations were made…to stay…with you
Like the way it was, I remembered…because, we were magnificent
But you already forgot about me, and so did I
Slipped into a mean suit that did not suit me
Donning hers because it seemed foreboding
What about hers, she’s worn it twice
Praying…we did it all the time
Sat down here and there for nights at a time
Soothed our souls during those ceremonies
Spring water washed down doubts and fears
Traveling, we were always on the road
In love with you most when we were going somewhere…get there
Jim Boyd plays in the background, “I’ve got a map in my pocket,
Where every town is named for you…I’ll make a stop in all of them,
If you’d just guide me through”
I left.
One last time, I hear Jim Boyd sing, “When I see you dance in the bar light,
I wonder when the song will end.”
