Candidates speak at one of first public political meetings during 2012 election season

Candidates for the Third Osage Nation Congress have started their trek on the campaign trail with several making a stop at the Cedar Chest to share their interest in seeking public office.

Cedar Chest co-operators Julie O’keefe and Danette Daniels held an April 12 reception for the Legislative Branch candidates who are seeking the six Congressional seats up for grabs in the June election.

Osage Holiday Gala planned for Dec. 10 at Osage Event Center is $200 a ticket

An Osage Holiday Gala hosted by a group of Osage citizens to help raise money to benefit Osage Youth and the Osage Tribal Museum will be held on Dec. 10 at the Osage Casino Events Center in Tulsa.

The Osage Tribal Museum, The Osage Foundation, the Notah Begay III Foundation and the Nike N7 Fund will all benefit from funds raised at the gala. The money raised for the foundations and fund will essentially benefit the Osage youth.

Ticket prices are set at $200 a plate and $10,000 for a premium table of 10 that includes a VIP Reception at the host hotel.

Over 2,000 votes cast for the top two Executive Branch posts last year; Board is also considering a Facebook page for informational purposes

The Osage Nation Election Board voted unanimously to destroy the hundreds of paper ballots cast in the July 2010 runoff election for the top two Executive Branch offices. On July 25, those 2,000-plus ballots were shredded after being retrieved from the Pawhuska bank safe where they were stored.

In 1995 article Proctor foretells her work for advancing civil rights of racial minorities

Many rumors have been spreading in the Osage blogosphere about a 1995 Playboy issue featuring Osage Nation assistant principal chief runoff candidate Amanda Proctor.

Proctor, 35, said it’s true, she posed for Playboy when she was 20-years-old while attending Harvard University in Cambridge, Ma. The runoff election for assistant principal chief is Monday and her opponent, Scott BigHorse, had no comment for this story.

Runoff election debate slated for June 23 at the Cultural Center in Pawhuska

The Osage News is holding runoff election debates on June 23 in Pawhuska featuring the four candidates running for the Osage Nation Principal Chief and Assistant Principal Chief offices in the July 19 runoff election.

The debates will be held at 6 p.m. at the Wah Zha Zhi Cultural Center, 1449 W. Main, and will be broadcast live on the Nation’s Web site at www.osagetribe.com. The public is invited to attend the debates that day and hear the candidates answer the debate questions.

The event is also being catered by the Osage Million Dollar Elm.

Some 'humiliated' by discovering their names on list of non-Osage shareholders

Some shareholders expressed shock and disappointment when their names or names of deceased relatives appeared on the Fletcher v. USA complaint filed in Federal District Court in Tulsa June 12.

The complaint contained a list of 1,747 names of individuals, churches, colleges, institutions and organizations that Fletcher attorneys allege are in illegal possession of Osage mineral shares because of their non-Osage status.
