Candidates speak at one of first public political meetings during 2012 election season

Candidates for the Third Osage Nation Congress have started their trek on the campaign trail with several making a stop at the Cedar Chest to share their interest in seeking public office.

Cedar Chest co-operators Julie O’keefe and Danette Daniels held an April 12 reception for the Legislative Branch candidates who are seeking the six Congressional seats up for grabs in the June election.

Three Osage Nation Congressional candidates file on day one; No one files on day two

Three Osages have filed their candidacy papers – thus far – for the 2012 General Election in which six Osage Nation Congressional seats are up for grabs.

On day two of the filing period, no Osages filed candidacy papers, according to the ON Election Office on March 16. The filing period stretches through April 2.

The day before, three candidates filed their papers by closing time. Berbon Hamilton was the first to file and later in the day Rosemary Shaw and John Maker did the same.

March 15 marks the first day Osages can register to become official candidates for the Third Osage Nation Congress

Osage congressional hopefuls can now register to be official candidates for the 2012 Osage General Election June 4.  

Berbon Hamilton was the first candidate to walk through the Osage Election Office doors this morning, said Delores Davis, election office staff. He was waiting for her to open the doors at 7:55 a.m. Hamilton will be just one of many that will put his hat in the ring for a seat on the Third Osage Nation Congress.

The candidacy-filing period begins today (March 15) and ends April 2.

Hamilton was honored at the 36th Annual Indian Progress in Business Awards Event (INPRO) on Sept. 8

Berbon Hamilton, General Manager of Osage Innovative Solutions, LLC, is a 2011 recipient of the “40 under 40” award from the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED).

Hamilton was honored at the 36th Annual Indian Progress in Business Awards Event (INPRO) on Sept. 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

The Osage Nation is this year’s recipient of the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce’s Business Leadership Award

The Osage Nation is this year’s recipient of the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce’s Business Leadership Award. The Nation received the recognition Jan. 24 during the Chamber’s annual Business After Hours Meeting and Awards Ceremony at the Elks Lodge.

“(The Nation) has contributed to the success of several community projects involving business and economic development, tourism and recreational opportunities for our community,” said Chamber board member Jennifer Tiger.

Hamilton will serve a three-year term on the board which focuses on the area’s business entities

Osage Data General Manager Berbon Hamilton has been named to the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce board of directors. He will serve a three-year term on the board with eight other members for the chamber which focuses on the area’s business entities and economic development.

Hamilton attended his first chamber meeting as a board member on Feb. 16. As part of his new post, he will join fellow board members who work with 141 area businesses and individuals (both Native and non-Native American) who are chamber members.

LLC approved four passive investments in ‘09, makes partnership involving Osage Data

The Osage Nation Limited Liability Company ended 2009 on a high note by surpassing that year’s goals of setting up its office operations and making passive investments in an effort to increase the Nation’s revenue that’s independent of gaming income.

“We’ve exceeded all of our goals and (the LLC) board’s expectations,” said LLC CEO Carol Leese. The LLC planned on making three passive investments in 2009, but approved four by December, he said.
