Gaming Enterprise officials would seek loan from outside financial institutions for expansion projects

Osage Casinos are now authorized to borrow money from other lenders rather than dipping into the Osage Nation’s coffers.

The Second Osage Nation Congress voted 6-4 to pass ONCA 12-18, which authorizes the Gaming Enterprise to seek a loan up to $27.1 million from a banking institution for Osage Casino expansion projects. The bill’s approval came on the final day of the 12th Special Session.

Rules and Ethics committee finds Gaming Enterprise Board’s complaint did not have enough facts to censure Supernaw

The Congressional Rules and Ethics committee did not take an ethics complaint, filed against Osage Congressman William “Kugee” Supernaw by the Osage Gaming Enterprise Board, lightly, said Speaker of the Congress Jerri Jean Branstetter.

“The facts fall short of an ethics violation,” Branstetter said at a May 17 Rules and Ethics committee meeting.

Supernaw calls complaint ‘frivolous’ and an attempt to stop inquiries into the Nation’s gaming enterprise

The Osage Gaming Enterprise Board filed an ethics complaint against Osage Congressman William “Kugee” Supernaw April 11, claiming he made libelous statements about the board and their Executive Management staff in his March 30 email newsletter Notes to the Nation.

Consideration of Gaming Commission appointees tabled

On opening day of the 2011 Hun-Kah Session, the Second Osage Nation Congress voted to confirm Aaron Bighorse to the Gaming Enterprise Board but tabled action on the two Gaming Commission appointments selected by Principal Chief John Red Eagle.

Land-into-trust applications submitted for three casino properties. A fourth application needed for undeveloped land behind Tulsa casino

The Second Osage Nation Congress unanimously passed a supplemental appropriation bill allocating $50,000 for land-into-trust application and completion costs on Feb. 25 during the Sixth Special Session. These monies will be designated for the trust applications concerning the lands holding the Osage Million Dollar Elm Casinos in Tulsa, Skiatook and Ponca City.

Bighorse will be subject to Congressional confirmation by the end of the 2011 Hun-Kah Session

TULSA, Okla. – Osage Nation Principal Chief John Red Eagle appointed a retired gaming industry worker to the Nation’s Gaming Enterprise Board. Aaron Bighorse, Osage, was sworn into his new post Feb. 15 at the tribal courthouse in Pawhuska and attended his first board meeting the next day at the Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino’s executive offices next to the Tulsa casino.

Bighorse joins Chairman Frank Oberly and vice Chairwoman Stacy Laskey on the three-member board and will serve as its secretary.

Gene Big Soldier resigns from ON Gaming Enterprise board

A vacancy opened on the Osage Nation’s three-person Gaming Enterprise Board last month after Gene Big Soldier resigned.

Gaming board Chairman Frank Oberly said Big Soldier resigned as board treasurer during the board’s Dec. 15 meeting, according to meeting minutes reported by the Gaming Enterprise. No reason or date for the resignation was listed.

The Osage News inquired with the Executive Branch about the gaming board resignation/ vacant position. A response was not received before this article was printed.

Congress votes down amending the Gaming Reform Act, passes $25,000 supplemental appropriation for OK Tax Commission lawsuit

The Second Osage Nation Congress ended its third Special Session on Nov. 12 by passing five bills and two resolutions. A bill seeking to modify the Nation’s Gaming Reform Act regarding litigation and legal matters was also voted down before Congress adjourned.

ONCA 11-02 (sponsored by Congressman Mark Simms) is “an act to provide for protections to the Osage Nation on legal matters of Osage gaming” which failed with seven “no” votes over five “yes” votes.

Kemble sworn into office Monday, Chief Red Eagle picks Gene Big Soldier as third Gaming Enterprise Board member

The Osage Congress ended its first Tzi-Zho Session on Oct. 7 with confirmations for the Nation’s second Treasurer and the second Gaming Enterprise Board member. A third board member, an interim appointment made by Principal Chief John Red Eagle, was made last week.

Big Soldier will replace interim appointee David Conrad on Nation’s GEB

Gene Big Soldier has been appointed to the Osage Nation Gaming Enterprise Board by Principal Chief John Red Eagle. Big Soldier joins newly confirmed appointee Stacey Laskey, who was appointed by former Chief Jim Gray, and GEB Chairman Frank Oberly, also a Gray appointee.

Gaming Commission expansion bill is subject to NIGC approval

The Second Osage Nation Congress passed two bills during its Oct. 4 session, one of which will expand the Gaming Commission from one to three members.

Ten Congress members unanimously passed ONCA 10-73, a bill sponsored by Congressman Mark Simms to expand the Gaming Commission. Also unanimously passed by Congress was ONCA 10-79 which is “An Act to Improve Congressional Oversight of the Osage Nation Gaming Enterprise.” Its sponsor is Congressman Geoffrey Standing Bear.

Gaming Enterprise Board chair says gaming distribution was never in jeopardy and that OMDE casinos have never been in better financial shape

A bill sponsored by Congressman Mark Freeman that would trim the Osage budgets down to $23.9 million was discussed by Congress Monday, as well as putting all employee salaries back to 2009 levels allowing a 3 percent step increase and halting all new hires.

Freeman expressed that he did not like the bill but he felt it was necessary to introduce a bill that would be a compromise with those members of Congress that want the budget below $25 million.
