Inauguration to be held in the Congressional Chambers at 10 a.m. July 4

The recently elected Third Osage Nation Congress members will be sworn into office July 4 at 10 a.m. in the Congressional Chambers on the government campus in Pawhuska.

Those six Osages will serve four-year terms after being elected to the Legislative Branch in the June 4 General Election.

Serving on the Third ON Congress are: RJ Walker, John F. Maker, Archie L. Mason, Shannon Love Edwards, Maria Whitehorn and John Jech.

Unofficial results: Two incumbents reelected, all proposed Constitutional amendments fail; Provisional ballots to be counted Wednesday

The Osage people elected four new Congressional members in the 2012 General Election and re-elected two incumbents to serve on the Third ON Congress, according to preliminary results.

In complete, but unofficial results, RJ Walker, John F. Maker, Maria Whitehorn and John Jech were voted in and incumbents Shannon Edwards and Archie Mason were re-elected in the June 4 election.

My name is John Jech and I am a candidate for the Osage Nation Congress.  I am the grandson of Charles and Nancy Big Elk.  My great-grandparents were Charles Big Elk (Allottee #705) and Cora Pitts Lohah Big Elk (Allottee #706).  I was born, raised and reside in Pawhuska with my wife Melissa and our daughters Cortlynn and Brecklynn.

Due to delay, checks will have signatures of former Principal Chief Jim Gray and former Treasurer John Jech

Parents should be rest assured that their reimbursement checks for their children, as part of the $500 health benefit card program, will be mailed Nov. 23, said Chris White, executive director of governmental affairs for the Nation.

White said the checks will have the signatures of former Principal Chief Jim Gray and former Treasurer John Jech on them until the signatures of the new chief and new treasurer are implemented.

Chief’s office said the checks will be released this week

It’s been a month since reimbursement checks have been mailed to Osage parents to pay for medical bills in accordance to the Nation’s Health Benefit Card program but the Chief’s Office said the checks will be mailed out soon.

The Osage Congress ended its first Tzi-Zho Session on Oct. 7 with confirmations for the Nation’s second Treasurer and the second Gaming Enterprise Board member. A third board member, an interim appointment made by Principal Chief John Red Eagle, was made last week.

Treasurer The following is the unaudited summarized information for the Osage Nation Treasury Fund for the third quarter of fiscal year 2009. The Nations Treasury fund received $20,997,222 during the third quarter of fiscal year 2009. $19,309,942 was received from gaming operations, $1,300,000 was received from tax revenue, $209,147 was interest earned, $104,993 represents returns of unused fiscal year 2008 distributions, $21,623 was received from gift shop operations and $51,518 of other miscellaneous income was received.

The Nations Treasury fund received $8,252,083 during the second quarter of fiscal year 2010. $7,500,000 was received from gaming operations, $642,289 was received from tax revenue, $80,622 was interest earned and $29,172 represents returns of unused prior year distributions and other miscellaneous income.
