Negotiated Rulemaking Committee to meeting at Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center Feb. 25-27, meetings are public

After a tumultuous Negotiated Rulemaking Committee meeting Jan. 25, where landowner after landowner said their complaints fell on deaf ears at the Osage Agency, a solution may be near.

Acting BIA Osage Agency Superintendent Rhonda Loftin said at a Feb. 20 Osage Minerals Council meeting that the Agency is implementing a tracking system for every complaint made, to track the problem from beginning to end.

Complaints of environmental hazards caused by drilling and the BIA turning a blind eye common theme at Negotiated Rulemaking Committee meeting Jan. 25

Stories of unenforced drilling regulations from Osage County landowners rained down on the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee Friday, Jan. 25.

Surrounded by more than 80 landowners at the Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center, the committee listened as story after story of environmental hazards caused by oil companies on their lands endangered cattle, wildlife, and loved ones.

The Osage Minerals Council is showing their support for Bureau of Indian Affairs Osage Agency Superintendent Melissa Currey, who is currently on leave.

At an OMC regular meeting Jan. 16, a resolution passed 5-1 with two abstentions, to send a letter of support for Currey to the BIA regional director.

Osages, oil producers, general public can use site as research or mapping tool

Researching oil production in the Osage just got a lot easier.

A interactive website, built by the Nation’s Environmental Resource department has compiled and mapped out nearly every oil well in the Osage. Information that used to take weeks, sometimes months, to obtain at the Bureau of Indian Affairs can now be obtained at the click of a mouse.

BIA says 2012’s summit auction sales amount is one of lowest; OMC Chairman notes companies who previously bought leases are busy with those obligations

TULSA, Okla. – This year’s Osage Oil and Gas Summit’s annual lease auction raised $14,200 with three land tracts selling close to the minimum bid amounts for oil and gas production. The total is one of the lowest amounts raised during the auctions geared at leasing land tracts and offering a bonus to the quarterly shareholder payments.

The 11th annual Osage Oil and Gas Summit and will be held Nov. 7 and 8 at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa with a lease auction on Nov. 7.

Committee meetings seek to update CFRs regarding the Osage Minerals Estate; September meetings to be held in Tulsa

The Osage Minerals Council’s Negotiated Rulemaking Committee is hosting two open meetings on Sept. 27 and 28 in Tulsa.

The committee is meeting with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in a series of planned meetings to update the Code of Federal Regulations concerning the Osage Minerals Estate. More committee meetings are planned for October and November.

The Osage Minerals Council’s Negotiated Rulemaking Committee is hosting two open meetings on Sept. 27 and 28 in Tulsa.

The committee is meeting with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in a series of planned meetings to update the Code of Federal Regulations concerning the Osage Minerals Estate. More committee meetings are planned for October and November.

The Sept. 27 and 28 committee meetings will be held at the Doubletree Hotel at Warren Place, 6110 S. Yale Ave. in Tulsa. Both meetings start at 9 a.m. and last until 6 p.m.

Voter turnout during the Aug. 13 special election is slow – thus far – with 450 Osages casting in-person ballots by 7:30 p.m.

Amid cooler daytime temperatures, voters arrived by the handfuls or less at the Congressional Chambers where the voter booths are erected for the special election with four proposed constitutional amendments listed on the ballot.

Judge denies injunction request against Wind Capital Group; Judge says ‘case is built on speculative concern’

Wind farms are on the horizon.

A federal judge declined the Osage Nation’s request to stop a proposed wind farm from construction in western Osage County, stating the tribe failed to prove it would be harmed by the project.

Over 100 land tract leases sold to highest energy company bidders; One 18-month lease sold for a record $100,000

TULSA, Okla. – A bonus of approximately $1.7 million was raised at the oil and gas lease sales auction held during the annual Osage Oil and Gas Summit on Nov. 9.

The $1.7 million figure is nearly double the $864,940 raised during the 2010 auction. This year’s auction is the 13th one for the tribe attended by representatives from various oil and gas company representatives at Tulsa’s Hyatt Regency hotel. The Osage Minerals Council and Bureau of Indian Affairs oversaw the auction, which featured 160-acre tracts of land available for oil and/or gas mining.

Osage Minerals Council approves $100,000 for litigation against project; BIA recommends sending project proposals, agreements for agency review

The federal Bureau of Indian Affairs is considering court action to halt construction of a 94-turbine wind farm in western Osage County if the parties involved cannot prove its operations will not interfere with the Osage Minerals Estate.

Attorney General issues opinion that the OMC is subject to the Open Meetings Act and Open Records Act

The Second Osage Nation Congress posed a question to Attorney General Jeff Jones Jan. 25 that asked whether the Osage Mineral’s Council was subject to the Nation’s Open Meetings Act and the Open Records Act. His reply: yes they are.

His official opinion, issued April 29, said that although the OMC is an independent agency it is still an entity under the Osage Nation and its Constitution.

Yelling and threats from meeting attendees heard on recording of OMC meeting

The Osage Minerals Council voted to rescind a resolution that would have sent $50,000 to the plaintiffs in the Jech vs. United States lawsuit April 20.

The OMC voted to help fund the lawsuit last year but due to some second thoughts by Councilmen Melvin Core and Myron Red Eagle, the check was never sent. Since that time Chief John Red Eagle said he would not support the case or help fund it, members of the Osage Congress brought attention to the account the money was to come from and asked for an audit, and on March 31 the case was dismissed.
