Congressional Affairs committee hears testimony regarding Congressional compensation, taxation

The Second Osage Nation Congress issued two subpoenas for the Nation’s Treasurer and Human Resources director to appear before the Congressional Affairs Committee regarding the Congress members’ compensation and income taxation on April 15.

The Office of the Chief is compiling a database of qualified applicants who are willing to serve on an Osage Nation Board, commission, task force or similar entity

The Office of the Chief is compiling a database of qualified applicants who are willing to serve on an Osage Nation Board, commission, task force or similar entity. These applicants may be appointed to serve for an interim period prior to confirmation by Congress.

Potential appointees may be:

·       Called upon to attend an interview by the Osage Congress before confirmation

·       Asked to provide additional or updated personal information

Summer scholarship deadlines coming up

The Second Osage Nation Congress will be honoring Osage college students graduating this Spring who received help from the Osage Nation Higher Education Scholarship.

Graduating students who desire to receive a sash to wear at their graduating ceremonies and commendation from the Congress should contact the Congressional offices at (918) 287-5559 or email the Congress at llazelle@osagetribe.org. The Congress asks that all requestors send the accurate spelling of their name, name of degree achieved and mailing address.

Term limits for the Principal Chief, increase to tribal employee minimum wage, storm shelters and amendment to Ethics law among bills filed

The Second Osage Nation Congress convenes for its first Hun-Kah Session on March 21 at the Congressional Chambers in Pawhuska. This regular spring session will last up to 24 days and may be extended for three additional days, if needed.

During the session, the Congress will consider various pieces of legislation with ten bills already filed one week prior to session.

Seven items to be considered by Congress including supplemental appropriation bills and consideration of a merit-based employee system for the government

The Second Osage Nation Congress will meet for its Sixth Special Session starting Feb. 23 at the Congressional Chambers in Pawhuska. Principal Chief John Red Eagle issued a proclamation this week for the special session with seven items listed for consideration by the Congress.

According to the proclamation, the Congress is slated to consider:

·      A modification to the Nation’s Gaming Commission budget.
