Attorney General issues opinion that the OMC is subject to the Open Meetings Act and Open Records Act

The Second Osage Nation Congress posed a question to Attorney General Jeff Jones Jan. 25 that asked whether the Osage Mineral’s Council was subject to the Nation’s Open Meetings Act and the Open Records Act. His reply: yes they are.

His official opinion, issued April 29, said that although the OMC is an independent agency it is still an entity under the Osage Nation and its Constitution.

Opinion addresses whether Congressman Geoffrey Standing Bear is in violation of the Osage Constitution by serving as the Pawnee Nation’s attorney general

Osage Nation Attorney General Jeff Jones made his first official opinion March 22.

The question: Can Congressman Geoffrey Standing Bear serve as an Osage Nation Congressman while serving as Attorney General for the Pawnee Nation?

Jones’s answer, yes he can.

“ . . . the position of Pawnee Nation Attorney General is a contractual position and Congressman Standing Bear can serve as Congressman for the Osage Nation while employed as Attorney General for the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma,” according to the opinion.
