Osage News will publish results after poll closes at 8 p.m.

Voter turnout during the Aug. 13 special election is slow – thus far – with 450 Osages casting in-person ballots by 7:30 p.m.

Amid cooler daytime temperatures, voters arrived by the handfuls or less at the Congressional Chambers where the voter booths are erected for the special election with four proposed constitutional amendments listed on the ballot.

Four proposed Constitutional amendment questions on ballot

Osages will be asked for the second time this year to vote in a Special Election to be held on August 13 on the Osage campus. The Special Election asks Osages to vote for or against four proposed Osage Constitutional amendment questions.

The questions pertain to the Osage Minerals Estate and its role in the 2006 reformed tribal government.

The amendment questions require a 65 percent “yes” vote to pass.

General Election scheduled for June 4; Special Election scheduled for Aug. 13

Osages are being asked to visit the poll twice this year.

The General Election, scheduled for Monday, June 4, is for six seats on the Third Osage Nation Congress and seven proposed amendments to the Osage Constitution.

However, many Osages at a Feb. 28 Grayhorse Town Hall meeting didn’t know there is going to be a Special Election Aug. 13. The Special Election is for four amendments to the Osage Constitution regarding the Osage Minerals Estate.

Nation remains opposed to wind farm development in Osage County; Nation officials say they will pursue other efforts to prevent Wind Capital Group project from being built

The Osage Nation, through the Osage Minerals Council, dropped its appeal of the wind farm trial verdict Feb. 22. The appeal was filed to prevent a 94-turbine project from being built in western Osage County.

Congress to meet in Special Session Jan. 20; Election Board suggests Aug. 13 special election date

Four proposed Constitutional amendment questions related to the Osage Minerals Estate are the target of a proposed special election, which could be held in August, pending Congressional approval.

The Second Osage Nation Congress will consider a resolution for a special election during their 14th Special Session scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday (Jan. 20).

The Osage Nation has filed a federal lawsuit seeking an injunction against Wind Capital Group, arguing that a proposed 94-turbine wind farm near Burbank will interfere with oil and gas production on the Osage Minerals Estate.

Osage Nation remains opposed, ‘disappointed’; legal action being considered

The Osage County Board of Adjustment unanimously voted in favor for a Missouri-based wind farm company to build 94 wind turbines in western Osage County near Burbank. Construction on the project could start this fall and would be finished in about one year.

Amid concerns shared by an Osage Nation official and discussion surrounding the communication between St. Louis-based Wind Capital Group and the Nation, the board voted 4-0 to approve a zoning variance for the land originally designated for agricultural use.

One need not fully understand the art form known as ballet.  One needs only to watch her perform, to take in the grace and beauty of her movement and artistic expression

The grandmother wrapped a tiny shawl around her, and the three-year-old and the grandmother Eliza Tall Chief, danced tall and straight to the beat of the I lo’n shka drum, dancing onto the ground of the Grayhorse brush arbor. 

The men danced with women forming a circle around them, she remembers, shifting their weight from one foot to the other.  It was a beat and a rhythm that would remain with her, always.
