Federal and Osage Nation law enforcement authorities are wrapping their investigations into the former Pawhuska Indian Village Five-Man Board activities this month, according to ON Attorney General Jeff Jones.

When Osage Nation Police Officer Mike Anderson greeted Teresa Johnson at her house, Johnson thought something bad had happened but she quickly realized it was good news.

Anderson opened the back of his patrol car and presented Johnson with an early Christmas present, a computer.

Johnson’s eyes lit up and she was beside herself. With a big smile on her face, Johnson motioned Anderson to bring the computer inside her house.

ONPD has a force of 18 officers plus the chief of police

Osage Nation Principal Chief John Red Eagle issued an executive order removing Attorney General Jeff Jones’ supervisory authority of ON Police Chief Nick Williams. Williams will now be reporting to the Chief’s office.

In the four-sentence executive order dated Oct. 30, Red Eagle wrote: “Effective immediately, all Osage Nation Police Department personnel will report to Nick Williams, Osage Nation Chief of Police instead of Jeff Jones, Osage Nation Attorney General.

Police Officers are sometimes stereotyped as arrogant, elitist and donut connoisseurs, but Osage Nation Police Officers said they are working to erase that image.

“Police work is truly about catch real bad guys … not about making someone’s life worse because they made a human mistake,” said ON Police Officer Nick Silva. “We have to know the decision we make can truly affect someone’s life in an instant.”

Osage Nation Police Chief Nick Williams agrees with Silva and wishes people would see ONPD as a positive entity.

The new Caprice patrol cruisers are custom-made for law enforcement use

Ten new black Osage Nation Police Department patrol cruisers can now be seen on the streets of Osage County.

“So far we have been impressed with the cars,” ON Police Chief Nick Williams said of the four-door Chevrolet Caprices which now patrol the Nation’s jurisdiction.

The full-size sedan includes a 6-speed transmission with rear wheel drive, front cloth bucket seats sculptured for gun belts with high wear fabric and a seat back security panel.

Terri Silva is the second female police officer to work with the ONPD

Terri Silva always wanted to work for the Osage Nation Police Department and in March her dream finally came true.

“For a long time I wanted to come work for the Osage Nation because it is in the roots of my family,” Silva said.

Silva is the second Osage female police officer to join the ON Police Department. The first Osage female police officer was Martha Donelson who worked for the ON from 2004-2007.

Walkeen Wahwassuck was found safe in Tulsa; details have yet to be released

The Osage Nation Police Department announced that Walkeen “Keenie” Wahwassuck has been found safe in Tulsa.

According to a prepared release, the ONPD said the public responded to requests for information, providing possible leads for the department and Wahwassuck was found safe. Details have yet to be released.

Wahwassuck’s family expressed their joy on Facebook and thanked the community for their efforts in finding her.

Walkeen "Keenie" Wahwassuck has been missing since March 14 and was last seen in Tulsa

The Osage Nation Police Department and the Tulsa Police Department have opened investigations into the disappearance of Walkeen “Keenie” Wahwassuck, a Pawhuska native who went missing March 14.

According to a flyer by Wahwussuck’s family, she was last seen about 1 p.m. March 14 near the Indian Health Resource Center at 550 S. Peoria Ave. in Tulsa.

She was driving a tan-gold, four door, 2005 Chevrolet Malibu with tinted windows, a front license plate that reads “Classic” and an Osage Nation tag of ON10674.

Over 2,000 votes cast for the top two Executive Branch posts last year; Board is also considering a Facebook page for informational purposes

The Osage Nation Election Board voted unanimously to destroy the hundreds of paper ballots cast in the July 2010 runoff election for the top two Executive Branch offices. On July 25, those 2,000-plus ballots were shredded after being retrieved from the Pawhuska bank safe where they were stored.

Police Lt. Nicholas Williams named Interim Chief

On June 8, the Osage Nation Executive Branch announced a change in command for the Nation’s Police Department.

Police Lt. Nicholas “Nick” Williams has been named Interim Chief, according to a news release. Williams replaces former police Chief John Drexil who is stepping down from the post to work as a police sergeant.

The Osage Nation Police Department is implementing a sex offender registry and plans to launch a Web site this fall which will provide public information on offenders living, working or visiting the Nation’s lands held in federal trust.
