Participants will work toward an opportunity for leadership positions at Osage Casinos

Osage Casinos is seeking Osage applicants expressing a desire to learn more about leadership in the gaming industry and the Osage Nation.

The leadership program will develop future employees’ skills and intellect for advanced leadership positions at Osage Casinos, according to a prepared release. No prior gaming experience is necessary.

Session may last until April 25; projected revenue for 2014 is $44.7 million

The Third Osage Nation Congress is stretching its session past the 24-day marker after a majority agreed to extend the session up to three days.

The final day of session is April 25. A majority of the session focused on budget issues as the legislative body considered several appropriation bills requesting supplemental funding or reserving tribal money for savings purposes.

The Skiatook Casino is expected to be finished in early 2014

Osage Manhattan Builders reached a milestone at the Skiatook Osage Casino construction site and celebrated with an employee appreciation luncheon on March 19.

“We reached the milestone of no accidents since we started on the construction of the new Skiatook Casino six months ago and we have a crew of 60 men,” said Cliff Crawford, Osage Manhattan Builders senior superintendent.

Approximately $12,000 raised for summer youth programs

The Osage Nation Foundation hosted their first annual Osage Christmas Celebration Dec. 15 and it was a success.

“The event went well and we definitely had more people than expected,” said Bill Webb, Osage Nation Foundation executive director. “We had right around 150 people who attended.”

Gaming board is authorized to seek $27.1 million loan for Ponca City, Skiatook casino projects; Congress meets for three-day special session

The Third Osage Nation Congress wrapped its three-day second special session with passage of seven pieces of legislation and one bill voted down on Aug. 20. The Congress will next meet for the 24-day Tzi-Zho Session starting Sept. 4.

With a 9-2 vote, the Congress passed a resolution (ONCR 12-18) authorizing approval of a sovereign immunity waiver for the $27.1 million loan being sought to finance the Osage Casino projects planned at Ponca City and Skiatook.

Congress will consider appropriation bills and a sovereign immunity waiver resolution for a $27.1 million loan toward the Osage Casino projects

The Third Osage Nation Congress will meet for its second special session Aug. 16 at the Congressional Chambers in Pawhuska.

Principal Chief John Red Eagle issued an executive proclamation for the special session July 30 and an amended proclamation Aug. 7 with a total of eight business items for the Legislative Branch’s consideration. Special Congressional sessions may be called by either the Chief or with the written consent of two-thirds of the Congressional body.

Groundbreaking for Ponca City casino project is being finalized

The Osage Casino is moving forward with plans to improve the Nation’s seven-casino venture by adding hotels and new casino buildings at the Ponca City and Skiatook casinos. 

Groundbreaking for the Ponca City project is being finalized. Construction on the project, which includes a 48-room hotel and casino with up to 450 machines, is expected to last 11 months.

Entry level positions available in Skiatook and Ponca City

Osage Manhattan Builders is currently recruiting Osage tribal members for a mentorship program to assist in the construction projects of the Skiatook and Ponca City casinos.

The mentorship program is a minimum one-year commitment and will hire Osages for entry-level positions in construction management.

Every day is a different food theme from around the world

Jesus Lorenzo has worked for numerous Native American tribal casinos all over the U.S. and now he has come to the Osage Casinos.

Lorenzo is the executive chef for the Osage Casinos and operates the Tulsa Buffet that opened in January.

“I admire tribes who give their people a chance even if they don’t have the experience,” he said. “Then they hire someone like me to come in and teach them how to be successful.”

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. – Residents and casino goers have a new nightspot to consider thanks to an ongoing renovation project here at the Osage Casino.

On Dec. 16, construction crews put the finishing touches on the first phase of renovating the Sand Springs casino, which includes a new lounge area and a renovated high stakes playing area.

Gaming Enterprise officials would seek loan from outside financial institutions for expansion projects

Osage Casinos are now authorized to borrow money from other lenders rather than dipping into the Osage Nation’s coffers.

The Second Osage Nation Congress voted 6-4 to pass ONCA 12-18, which authorizes the Gaming Enterprise to seek a loan up to $27.1 million from a banking institution for Osage Casino expansion projects. The bill’s approval came on the final day of the 12th Special Session.

More than 200 children receive new winter coats

A lot of children in Osage County received new winter coats this Christmas, and they weren’t from Santa Claus.

The Osage Casinos helped the Osage Nation Head Start program buy new winter coats for each child this year, helping those children to a warmer holiday season.

The coats were provided on the last day before the holiday break for 210 children who attend school at the ON Head Start programs in seven locations throughout Osage County.

Osage Nation Principal Chief John Red Eagle approved the funding, in the amount of $3,000, for the coats.

The Osage Nation Gaming Enterprise Board is undergoing changes after the Second ON Congress passed legislation during the Tzi-Zho Session to expand the board to five members and remove some of its managing authority. The legislation also places the GEB with Osage Casino management staff.

Bighorse played a large role in Osage receiving the prestigious Barona/VCAT 2011 Award for Excellence in Indian Gaming Marketing

Jennifer Bighorse was named a “Rising Star” by 2010 Great Women of Gaming for her outstanding work for Osage Casinos as marketing director in August.

“A real leader, Jennifer demonstrates time after time her ability to involve and motivate others,” said Joe Olujic, chief operating officer at Osage Casinos. “She is a great listener and has the unique ability to hyper-focus when necessary. She can be opinionated, standing up for her position, yet she is still able to go in a different direction when asked.”

The casino is the first Oklahoma tribal gaming enterprise to win the Barona/ VCAT Award

The Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino has won a national Excellence in Indian Gaming Marketing award for 2010.

OMDEC is the first tribal gaming property in Oklahoma to win the Barona/VCAT Award for Excellence in Indian Gaming Marketing, according to a news release. The award was presented during the 13th Annual Raving Consulting National Marketing Conference near Palm Springs, Calif. held Jan. 30-Feb. 1.

Chief’s office submits final land-into-trust application for three Osage casinos in jeopardy if case should be denied

The U.S. Supreme Court Justices will meet in conference Feb. 18 to decide whether or not to hear the Nation’s case against the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Their decision will be made public Feb. 22.

If the High Court grants certiorari, or the right to hear the case based on merits, the Nation will proceed in a round of briefs, opinions and oral arguments to win the case. If the High Court denies the case then the 11-year battle is over.
