State of the Nation speech recognizes Osage services

Chief Red Eagle: ‘I’m proud to be your chief.’

Osage Nation services are offered to all Osages. A majority of services are also offered to low-income families in Osage County. Some of those services received state and national recognition in 2012.

Principal Chief John Red Eagle touted these achievements in his annual State of the Nation address March 8 at the Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center. In his roughly 30-minute speech, Red Eagle highlighted each department’s accomplishments. Some highlights were:

Address begins at 10 a.m. at the Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center

Osage Nation Principal Chief John Red Eagle will give his annual State of the Nation address March 8 at the Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center at 10 a.m. The speech will be live streamed on the Nation’s website, www.osagetribe.com.

Chief Red Eagle says administration is ‘making strides’ in improving government operations, benefits for all Osages

Osage Nation Principal Chief John Red Eagle said his administration is “making strides in improving the Nation’s internal operations” and said the Nation is on the threshold of increased opportunities to benefit all Osages.  

For example, Chief Red Eagle said his office is moving forward this year with efforts to build new government campus buildings in the master plan. He made the announcement in his 2012 State of the Nation address during the March 9 Osage Sovereignty Day observance.

Osage Nation observes Sovereignty Day 2012

Holiday recognizes anniversary of the 2006 tribal government; Celebratory dance to be held Friday night at Osage County Fairgrounds

The Osage Nation is celebrating Osage Sovereignty Day today (March 9).

The day pays homage to the reformed tribal government now entering its sixth year. The 2006 Osage Constitution was signed on March 11 that year.

A celebratory dance starts this afternoon at the Osage County Fairgrounds Ag Building (south of Pawhuska off State Highway 99).

All tribal government offices will be closed today and will reopen Monday March 12.

Red Eagle and Asst. Chief BigHorse meet with U.S. Solicitor General

Just a few days ago, Principal Chief John Red Eagle and Assistant Chief Scott BigHorse sat down with the U.S. Solicitor General and staff to tell them the history of the Osage people and its reservation.

“We told that story to [the Solicitor General and staff] and they were moved and they knew that when we walked out of that room, they knew that we had a reservation,” Red Eagle said in his March 11 State of the Nation address at the Wah Zha Zhi Cultural Center. “That a reservation exists here at this nation today, and it will continue to exist.”
