New Grayhorse roundhouse will have to wait until next year

Grayhorse Five Man Board still bidding for architect and other work for project

The Osages of the Grayhorse District will have to wait until next year for a new roundhouse.

According to Grayhorse Village Five Man Board member, George Pease, the board is looking for an architect as well as other estimates on electrical costs, design costs and any other costs that may arise. “We’re wanting to do a better job professionally,” he said.

Osage Congress passes Grayhorse roundhouse bill

Bill passes unanimously, even amongst criticism of Executive Branch from members of Congress

The Grayhorse District can breathe a sigh of relief.

The Second Osage Nation Congress unanimously passed ONCA 12-20 Jan. 20, a bill that appropriates $550,000 to the Grayhorse Five Man Board to begin design and construction on a new Roundhouse for the district.

Upon signature of the Principal Chief, the Osage Nation Properties Department in the Nation’s Executive Branch can begin bidding out construction on the project which will level the current arbor and construct a roundhouse in it’s place.

Three Osages appointed to newly created Health Authority Board

Board will be responsible for developing structure for the Nation’s Health and Wellness Division as well as compacting the Pawhuska IHS clinic

Osage Nation Principal Chief John Red Eagle has appointed three Osages to the new Health Authority Board created by Congressional legislation during the 2011 Tzi-Zho Session.

Ron Shaw, MD, Tim Tall Chief and Lynette Freeman have been named to the board created by ONCA 11-116. The board will be responsible for “consolidating and implementing the organizational structure of the Osage Nation Health and Wellness Division.”

ON Election Board shreds 2010 runoff election ballots

Over 2,000 votes cast for the top two Executive Branch posts last year; Board is also considering a Facebook page for informational purposes

The Osage Nation Election Board voted unanimously to destroy the hundreds of paper ballots cast in the July 2010 runoff election for the top two Executive Branch offices. On July 25, those 2,000-plus ballots were shredded after being retrieved from the Pawhuska bank safe where they were stored.

ON Congress passes bill to replenish $500 health benefit card program next year

More than 8,000 Osages have registered for the health card to help cover medical expenses

The Second Osage Nation Congress approved a $4 million supplement for the health benefit card fund Sept. 28 which will go toward replenishing the $500 health debit cards for the 2011 calendar year.

The $4 million supplement appropriation bill (ONCA 10-91) passed with a 7-3 vote after it was successfully advanced for a final vote. The bill’s sponsor is Congresswoman Shannon Edwards.

The Osage News runoff election debates are tonight and all four candidates have said they will be there. The candidates running are John Red Eagle and Tim Tall Chief for principal chief, and Amanda Proctor and Scott BigHorse for assistant principal chief. The debates will be held at 6 p.m. at the Wah Zha Zhi Cultural Center, 1449 W. Main, and will be broadcast live on the Nation’s Web site at www.osagetribe.com. The public is invited to attend the debates and hear the candidates answer the debate questions. The event is also being catered by the Osage Million Dollar Elm.

The Osage News is holding runoff election debates on June 23 in Pawhuska featuring the four candidates running for the Osage Nation Principal Chief and Assistant Principal Chief offices in the July 19 runoff election.

The debates will be held at 6 p.m. at the Wah Zha Zhi Cultural Center, 1449 W. Main, and will be broadcast live on the Nation’s Web site at www.osagetribe.com. The public is invited to attend the debates that day and hear the candidates answer the debate questions.

The event is also being catered by the Osage Million Dollar Elm.

Congress rescinds secret ballot votes held April 7, 9

On the last day of the 2010 Hun-Kah Session Thursday, the Osage Nation Congress rescinded last week’s board confirmation votes conducted by secret ballot then voted again – in the open – on all board appointees which resulted in dismissals of George Pease and Elizabeth Lohah Homer from the Gaming Enterprise Board.

Thursday’s votes come eight days after the Congress declined to confirm board members Frank Oberly, Pease and Chairwoman Homer in a secret ballot vote on April 7.
