Wahzhazhe is a contemporary ballet that tells the history of the Osage people from pre-contact to present day. It is the first of its kind and very unique. The ballet will be premiering in Tulsa and Bartlesville in August.

Auditions for the Osage-themed ballet are scheduled for Feb. 4 in Tulsa

The Wahzhazhe Ballet needs dancers.

Producers for the ballet are looking for 12 female and 12 male ballet dancers for the production. In the female dancers they are looking for dancers who are strong on pointe and have strong classical technique, said Randy Tinker Smith, director of the production. In the male ballet dancers they are looking for dancers who have strong technique and partnering skills, he said.

Auditions will be held at the Jasinski Academy in Tulsa at 1 p.m. on Feb. 4. Rehearsals will begin in mid-June, with room and board provided, Smith said.

Ballet producers are asking shareholders to donate to the Osage ballet

A new ballet is coming to town and it’s not, “The Nutcracker.”

A ballet, produced and created by local Osages, will be premiering in Pawhuska, Bartlesville and Tulsa titled, “Wahzhazhe,” which chronicles the Osage Nation’s history through dance.

The production reflects, “the rich culture of the Osage people who controlled a large part of what is now called the United States of America,” according to a prepared release.

New Palace owner Rick Parker: ‘Everything will be staying the same.’

The Osage Nation LLC got rid of two Osage businesses Monday. Two businesses some Osages felt were meant to serve the community and just weren’t for profit.

The Osage Nation Gift Shop closed for good and the Palace of the Osage grocery store in Fairfax has been sold to Rick Parker, a Barnsdall grocer.
